Most of us appreciate being heard. Having someone genuinely understand and empathize with what we’ve shared is invaluable in our lives. If we value having someone listen to us to this degree, one might expect that we would invest in our listening skills. The story of Christ calling some of His first followers shows us the importance of listening to Him. In a culture that can be overwhelmingly loud, we have to put a premium on listening for what matters. If we would seek God’s direction for our lives, we have to listen purposefully and humbly.
